“Electronic commerce, commonly known as e-commerce or eCommerce, consists of the buying and selling of products or services over electronic systems such as the Internet and other computer networks.
From small businesses to major corporations, ecommerce has been the buzz word on everyone’s lips for the last few years. Although it’s been a hot topic whose benefits have been heavily written about and reviewed by a myriad of different resources, there still remains a lot of misconception in the minds of companies who want implement an ecommerce system within their business strategy. Many contemporary businessmen think of ecommerce as merely setting up their website and selling the products online. The reality is that ecommerce is not simply a website selling online products – in fact, ecommerce is a complete drift of your business strategy from conventional to online.

Are you looking to host an event, party, conference or workshop? If you have done so before, you know event planning can be a headache. And, if you haven’t, you’re probably already overwhelmed! Continue reading to discover a checklist that will help you ensure you’re prepared for your upcoming event.

Nail down the basic information. Be able to answer these questions:
1. What is the purpose of your event? (Informational, fundraiser, social, etc.)
2. What is the name of your event? This should be catchy but relate to the purpose of your activity.
3. When will your event take place? (Date and time)
4. What is the draw – a performer, speaker, fundraising activity? If a person or group needs to be booked, are they available?

Determine what the physical needs for your event are. What about:
1. Physical space – Will your event take place at a banquet, conference room, dance hall?
2. Tables and chairs? If you’re having a meeting, presentation, or a dinner, how do you want the tables arranged? Consider this when evaluating venues.
3. Food and drink – will a meal be served? Snacks at breaks? Beverages? Sometimes this is bundled with your location, depending on location; otherwise, you may need to book a caterer. This is a good thing to keep in mind when booking a venue.
4. Equipment – will you need any audiovisual equipment for the event? Possible equipment includes televisions, public address systems, computer projector and screen, overhead projector, and so on. Will your venue supply such equipment, is it available elsewhere, or do you need to rent it?
5. Security – is your event large? Do you need a safety and security staff to ensure the well-being of your guests?
6. Lodging – is your event a multi-day affair, will guests be traveling long distances, or could guests be too tired or intoxicated to make it home? Consider reserving a block of rooms at a nearby hotel to make available to your guests. At a minimum, include information on nearby lodging in the materials you send to guests.
7. Transportation – How will your guests get to and from your event? Will they drive themselves, and, if so, is parking available? Is public transportation available? You may wish to use a coach hire service to provide transportation for your guests. This is especially advisable if alcohol is to be served at your event.

Advertising
1. Do you need to advertise your event? This may depend on the goal of the event and the intended audience.
2. If so, create an advertising budget and goals. Is the event public or private?
3. Identify advertising methods – email and the web? Radio? TV? Newspapers? The correct medium for you will depend on the type of guests you’re trying to recruit.
4. Design and distribute your ads, emails, letters or so on with adequate time to receive responses.

Last minute details
1. Confirm details with the venue, caterer, transportation service, etc.
2. Confirm any talent (band, speaker, performer, etc.)
3. Confirm equipment needs are met and all equipment is working properly
4. Review and confirm the guest list
5. Get a good night’s sleep!

Are you new to the internet marketing business? In no particular order, I am giving you some of the things you need to have if you really want to be able to make it in the internet marketing business. There are many things you can use, but here we give you the basic checklist with which you can begin.

Email

Of course, you cannot really expect to have an internet marketing business in full blast if you do not have a spacious and easy to organize email account. Emails are quite easy to create. But you must be able to create filters. It is most advisable to create a separate email account for your personal and business needs.

Website

A website is important because that is where you put your squeeze page, present your products and update on your prospects. A good web host costs only a few dollars a year, so make sure you have this accounted for already even before you begin your launch.

Products

What else will you be promoting if it it weren’t for the product? Your products will be the vehicle with which you will earn money. You will not be able to call yourself a true internet marketer if you do not have products so make sure you have decided on them already.

Outsourced Experts

Writers, web designers and programmers are just some of the key people you need in your internet marketing business. If you are able to outsource and focus on your own strengths in internet marketing, you will be able to do so much more in less time and earn so much in return.

An “Office” or Workplace

It does not have to be something with a corporate feel to it. Your home can be your office. For as long as it is a place conducive for your internet marketing operations, let nothing prevent you from securing it and using it to the utmost. A good workplace is a place where you can concentrate.

A Niche

A niche is that target of your products, your promotional stints and your sales pitches. If you have nailed down that specific niche with which you are to do your internet marketing stuff, you will have a more promising career in this business.

Goal

A goal is important because it will help you tailor your actions accordingly. An internet marketer without a solid goal is like a man running aimlessly with no direction in mind.

Strategy for Success

You must also embrace some sort of strategy in order to reach your goals. Trains do not just get on their destinations unless they have the tracks marked out specifically for them. In the same way, you are not to reach your destination without the strategy to take you.

An Excellent Mentor

You cannot expect yourself to learn it all by self study. You cannot get it right the first time. People who have better experience in the business than you are will prove to be great collaborators in teaching you the ropes of this business. Make sure you take every opportunity to be taught.

A Big and Sustained List

Now this is the biggest clincher. A good master list is the best way to ensure internet marketing success. You cannot expect your products to sell or your website to have traffic unless you are able to make use of a big list.

For that reason, I’ll use the following story to illustrate how this process might occur.

Roger and Roberta have grown weary of the tedium and the tiring political atmosphere of corporate life. When their kids leave home, they conclude that it’s time to switch to something more rewarding. But what? After a great deal of thought, they decide to start by contracting out their services to their former employers, which seems like the safest way to begin their transition. Later, they believe they will tackle some kind venture together, such as starting or buying a business.

After many years in the corporate world, however, their thinking patterns are still “stuck” in an employee mode. Because their outlooks revolve primarily around meeting the expectations of others, Roger and Roberta simply haven’t developed their own sets of values, visions, and goals.

In some ways, they feel as if they’ve been passengers in the back seat of a moving car, unable to steer. To pursue starting or buying their own business, they’ll need to find a way to move from the “passenger’s seat” to the “driver’s seat” where they’ll have better visibility and more control over their destinies.

And although they’re not aware of it yet, heading in this direction will mean reconstructing their mindsets. They’ll first need to shift from thinking like employees to thinking like contractors. Then they’ll need to start thinking like consultants. Ultimately, they’ll need to think like entrepreneurs. During their journey, they will develop their own criteria for business success that will enable them to identify ideal business ventures, clients, collaborators, and employees.

———————————————————

How to Derive Your Own Success Criteria

———————————————————

I work with clients to meticulously identify their life passions, purpose, strengths, gifts, life themes, and core values. When finished, they have produced a list of the specific ways in which they can weigh future business opportunities, collaborators, clients, and partners. Some of the criteria are more practical and others more lofty. But each selected criterion seems essential to achieving balance, fulfillment, financial return, and higher contribution in their lives.

For example, your success criteria can include everything from maintaining a healthy mix of work and recreation to seeking only what you believe you could be the best in the world at doing. Your criteria also can include many practical considerations, such as the qualities you would desire in potential collaborators. To spark your imagination, consider using categories such as these, each of which can hold more specific criteria:

* Alignment with passions and strengths

* Startup or acquisition requirements

* Potential for return on investment

* Control over working parameters

* Traits of potential collaborators

* Quality-of-life considerations

* Exit options or alternatives

Did you notice that the criteria are fairly neutral? That’s because only you (or your team) can decide just how important each criterion is. You can then assign numerical priorities, rankings, or weights to your criteria. In this way, you’ll create a powerful checklist for comparing, scoring, evaluating, and ultimately selecting future business ventures and related conditions, which will thereby set the conditions for success.

To summarize, aligning your life passions with your business purpose can help you define your business success criteria. Especially when you shift into an entrepreneurial mode after many years of corporate employment, those criteria illuminate how to choose the right situations, and establish the conditions for successfully pursuing them.

It is a great idea that you have decided to start your home based Internet business. To give you the upper edge to stand a few steps ahead of your competition use this checklist to ensure that all of your ducks are in a row and that you get a successful beginning to your new endeavor. First, you have to make sure that you have ample Internet access. As a matter of fact a broadband connection would be beneficial. This will save you a lot of time. Select a business that you are passionate about which will give you the drive and conviction that you need to be a success. Come up with a business name. Some simple brainstorming will help you out with this. Narrow down a few choices and go from there. Look for a name that stands out. Think about some commercials that you have seen on TV lately think about why you remember it and it is likely because they stood out above the rest. This is effective marketing!

Decide on your budget in terms of how much time are you willing to invest and how much money you have to get started? More money is only important for time saving that makes things more effortless. Those things you can do without at first because you need to learn the ropes and make a presence before you send your business on autopilot. When making your budget be sure that you do not include any monies that are needed for everyday life or to manage the household. Choose a domain name and when you do this stick with a name that is relevant to your business. For example if you sell cookies you would want a name like cookiesbyme rather than entrepreneur. There are lots and lots of registries available and some are free while others can cost some big bucks. Start out with the freebies so you can invest any money somewhere else.

Next, you need to set up some email accounts. These are free too, so do not worry. Try to make at least four separate accounts so that you can keep your projects separated easily. Get yourself an auto-responder. There are lots to choose from but just choose the one that best meets your budget. This is actually a very important tool that can either make or break your business. Marketing research indicates that most people will not make a purchase on their first visit to your website. Auto-responders do the follow up with not much effort on your end. It is really important that you make sure that you put some effort forth in developing a follow up message that is of quality.

You should also have a home based business phone. This might not be needed immediately but in time you will need one. Mixing your home phone with a business phone is not a very good idea because you risk the chance of your kids picking up the call; you may tie up your home phone line or even miss a call.

”What are you doing, honey?” she calls, already knowing the answer.

”What are you doing, honey?” she calls, already knowing the answer.

”I’m planning”, I reply with a smile.

She laughs and I get back to work.

She laughs because she swears I spend half of my time “planning”. But, if you ask me how I’m able to get as much work done as I do in only 3 hours a day, I’ll point to a black Franklin Covey planner with about a dozen laminated checklists inside.

Building an Internet business is easy. Seriously. I’m not saying that it’s not complicated, because it is. I’m just saying that it’s easy to accomplish if you just have a system in place.

There’s very little in this world that can’t be accomplished with the right set of action steps in front of you.

Today, I’m going to give you such a system for building your Internet business. There are only 4 steps…

1. Decide What You Want To Do. Do you want to run an eBay(R) business? Be an affiliate marketer? Buy and sell reprint rights? Get involved in niche marketing? While all of those things will likely find their way into your plan in time, you gotta begin with one thing at a time.

My recommendation: Choose a “broad” topic you are interested in and begin building a list of folks interested in that topic.

2. Determine A Weekly Action Plan. After you decide what you want to do, it’s time to determine how to get it done. What I do is this: I create a weekly set of action steps. That is, I have a set of things I do on Monday, on Tuesday, and so forth. Decide how many hours (as little as ONE) you want to work each day and schedule yourself a reasonable amount of things to get done in that time frame. Repeat this process week after week.

My recommendation: Begin writing ezine articles to promote your list … and affiliate programs. It’s the easiest way to get free traffic and build your list at the same time.

3. Devote Yourself To Staying On Schedule. The important thing here is to stick to it. The easiest way that I know of to make certain you develop discipline in your schedule is to NOT set unrealistic expectations. Give yourself ample time to do each day’s action step – don’t overschedule. Look for progress along the way to celebrate. Reward yourself when you’ve reached a milestone. And, remember, you’re GROWING a business. Just like physical growth, it takes time … it WILL happen if you remain committed.

My recommendation: Weave in simple activities related to the following categories – List building (ezine articles), product creation(conduct interviews or hire ghostwriters), site development (making your site convert more visitors into buyers),and education (continuing to learn new ways to grow your business).

4. Develop Additional Shortcuts. As you get better and better at working with your lists, creating products and tweaking your site, you’ll want to continue to improve your business with new ideas, strategies, tools, and resources. The key is simple: never stop learning!

My recommendation: Visit forums. Read articles. Download reports. Identify sites and resources that CONTRIBUTE to your success in educating you. You want faster results, bigger increases, automated processes, and other ways to get more accomplished and more profit, with less work involved.

Everything depends on your developing a plan and sticking to it.

And that is the REAL secret to building a high-profit Internet business!

There is a tremendous excitement in the air about niche marketing. Why? It’s the best way to get the most bang for your buck. And more than ever, marketing your product or service to a specific group of people is what funnels prospects to your website.

However, when you are a small business owner just starting out, niche marketing may seem counter-intuitive. After all, marketing to a larger group of people will net more sales, right?

As a small business start up consultant, getting my clients to focus on a specific niche market is one of the most challenging parts of my job. Often, they resist, saying, “I don’t want to restrict my market because if I do I’ll get fewer sales.” “Do you have an unlimited supply of dollars?” I ask them, “Because you’ll need millions to market to a broad market group.”

Is it okay with you if I save you months of agony and millions of dollars?

Good! Here are the three things every first-time small business owner must know before they market to their niche group.

Pre-marketing Niche Checklist

1. Do you know who isn’t in your target market?

Ruling out who isn’t in your niche is a fun way to get around the resistance many first-time small business owners have to narrowing their niche. Go crazy here. Consider your niche. Now, list all the things you know for certain about who your niche isn’t. How old aren’t they? Where don’t they live? What kind of a lifestyle don’t they engage in? Where don’t they hang out, live, or eat. What don’t they buy? What luxuries don’t they want? What aren’t they saving for? What product or service don’t they need you to supply?

This approach easily and effortlessly narrows the market. Besides that, it’s creative and fun. After answering this question, you will be much closer to determining who your niche market is and more open to focusing your business to serve a specialized, smaller niche group.

2. What problems do your competitors already solve for your niche?

In all my years of helping women start up businesses, every time I’ve ask the question, “What product or service does your niche need,” they’ve predictably responded with what product or service they are excited about rolling out. They haven’t a clue as to what their competitors already offer. Far worse . . . they don’t know what their niche actually needs.

To keep the focus off my client’s need and on her niche’s need, I’ve found focusing on her niche market’s competition to be a great work-around solution.

Engaging in market research at this stage of the start-up process gives you the inside scoop on your competition. You’ll come to know were the gaps are, and begin to formulate solutions. As you examine each of your competitors write down the answers to these questions:

+What products and services do they offer?

+What problems do you think they’re solving?

+How would you solve this very same problem?

Armed with the answers to these questions, you are ready to position your solutions for success.

3. What solution is your niche market willing to buy?

This question is designed to shift your thinking from what you are selling to what your niche market is buying. What are they willing to pay for? How much are they willing to spend? Why do they want it? You are placing yourself in a very powerful marketing position by knowing the answer to these three questions.

From this position, you can now focus your energy and resources on developing specific solutions that you know will be relevant and meaningful to your niche group. Ones you know they are willing to buy and want.

No need to guess any longer what your niche market wants and who they are. Complete the pre-marketing niche checklist to know for sure. You’ll save money, avoid months of agony, and attract a steady stream of potential buyers to your website, if you do these things before you market to your niche. Figure out who your niche market isn’t and what your market’s problem is so you can deliver your product with confidence.

In building and growing an online business, or one with a strong online component, there are several must-have tools which will allow you to not only have passive revenue, but to enjoy multiple streams of it.

Here’s a quick rundown of the most basic tools (there are other, more advanced tools which will be covered in a separate article):

1. A Shopping Cart.

An online shopping cart allows you to sell digital products, have them automatically delivered to your clients and automate the follow-up so you’re not sending emails all day and night.

I use and highly recommend KickStart Cart as an all-in-one shopping cart and autoresponder service. The Pro Version is $99.00/month (U.S.). If you’re not yet offering products, you can get the Starter ($34/mo) or Basic ($59/mo) versions.

And in order to easily accept MasterCard, VISA, American Express and Discover Card, you’ll want to link your shopping cart with a merchant account using a payment gateway.

2. An Email Marketing System/Service.

An email marketing system allows you to send ezines, solo e-mails and contact your prospect list whenever you wish.

While you can, and many people do, use your shopping cart for this, I prefer to use a separate system (due to deliverability issues) and use Constant Contact.

I continue to test deliverability between Constant Contact and Kickstart Cart (which is one of the 1ShoppingCart brands – they all have the same issues) and, for now, remain with this choice.

3. A Website, Blogsite or Other Opt-in Page.

In any online business, your primary goal is to have ideal prospects sign up to your list so they can receive your ezine and other information.

The way to make this happen is by placing an opt-in box on a website, blogsite or single opt-in page.

The one you choose is completely up to you as all have been proven successful. The nice thing about a blogsite is that you can get it up and running quickly and inexpensively and your hosting is usually included.

If you’re doing it yourself, I recommend TypePad for blogs/blogsites as it’s easy-to-use and has responsive support staff.

4. An Incentive to Sign-up.

People are busy. We all receive too much in our email inboxes these days and will only part with our information if there is something in it for us: a special report that we’re interested in, an audio series which will give us new information, a checklist that would be handy to have.

You need to have some incentive on your website/blogsite/opt-in page in order for people to part with their names and email addresses.

The report/audio/checklist is WHAT you’re giving them. Your ezine? It’s the bonus gift they receive as a result of requesting the report.

5. A Mentor.

If you’re starting out or currently stuck in your online business efforts, you will want to strongly consider partnering with a mentor who can keep you focused and accountable while guiding you through the distractions (and there are MANY!).

You’ll want to chat with a few different people to see who you best resonate with.

The time and money spent with a good mentor will save you hours and thousands of dollars in learning and mistakes, not to mention how much sooner the revenue will start coming in!

The above is by no means a complete listing of everything you’ll need in your business, but these 5 tools will see you WELL on your way to a 6-figure business.

The next item? You’ll have to wait for the next issue for that!

My Request to You

If you’ve read the above and are shaking your head saying “I’ve done/have all of the above and STILL nothing’s happening”, then it’s time to reevaluate:

Is your Incentive something your ideal client is interested in? If you’re getting lots of traffic to your site, but no one’s signing up, the answer is “nope”, or you’re not presenting it correctly.

Is your ezine providing information and content which is relevant to your ideal clients? If you’re seeing a lot of unsubscribes, it’s time to revisit what you’re doing.

Do you have a mentor (or coach) who gives you broad strokes, but doesn’t provide the actual steps of what you need to do when in order to move forward? If so, you need to ask if this is the right person for you at this time.

You, and only you, control your business and your level of success. What do YOU want and how much do you want it? The right tools will get you there so much faster!
